Cloth Diaper Review: Alvababy

I received this diaper complimentary from Alvababy. However, all opinions expressed are my own.

I started my cloth diapering journey in 2016 with Luna. It was a complete fail!

I had no idea what I was doing.

Cloth diapering was frustrating. It was a love/ hate relationship. More so on the hate side.
Only because we kept experiencing leaks and I was just fedup!

Fast forward to now:

I’ve been using cloth on Liam since day 1 and I absolutely love it!

Majority of my stash is compiled of Alvababy diapers. So I’ve been using them for months now and can provide you with indepth review!

This is a review for Alvababy pocket style diaper!

Review:

Fit

I love the fit of this diaper.

Personally, I like diapers with rounded tabs better than the square tabs. I feel like they fit Liam’s chunky legs better!

Alva sells both styles of diaper!

Another thing I noticed about the fit, Alvababy diapers tend to run on the bigger side. I tried to use them when Liam was a newborn and I wasn’t able to get a great fit on his little legs. But, that didn’t last very long. By one month, he was in the able to fit into in diapers on the first rise.

However, I do like that they run bigger! I was able to use them on Luna while we were in the process of potty training.

So if you have two in diapers, having a diaper with a bigger fit would be ideal.

Absorbency

Each pocket style diaper comes with one microfiber insert. For us, just one insert was not absorbent enough. I know some people are able to get away with just the one. But, one insert just wasn’t cutting it.

Simple fix: use two inserts in the diaper!

Quality

Alvababy diapers are great quality. No ifs, ands, or buts! My diapers haven’t experienced any fading, loose elastics, or broken snaps.

In comparison, to higher end diapers I would grab my Alva’s faster than those diapers any day!

Price

As I mentioned, AlvaBaby diapers make up the majority of my stash.

I love these diapers y’all not only are the cute, but affordable!

When I initially made the decision to cloth diaper, I was only recommended expensive diapers (diapers 20$ +) . That was discouraging for me.

I didn’t want to spend money on expensive diapers, ruin them, and end up throwing them away.

Then I came across the Alvababy brand!! I was like affordable cloth diapers and they’re cute? #takeallmymoney

Alvababy diapers will run you 3$-9$ a diaper, depending on the style and where you purchase them from!

These diapers are perfect for starting out your cloth journey!

Overall

I highly recommend Alvababy Diapers! These are great quality affordable cloth diapers!
You can get yours here.

Itzy Ritzy: Milk Boss Review

Hey Beloved, I’m coming to you guys with another review. This is a review for Itzy Ritzy’s Milk Boss!

The Milk Boss is a feeding support pillow. As you all know, I’ve been breastfeeding since 2015, with only a few months in between children for a break ( I KNOW, I KNOW). Needless to say, I’ve had my fair share of trial and error with nursing pillows. So, I’ll be able to give you a real run down of my experience with this pillow.

Right off the bat, this pillow isn’t just for breastfeeding moms. As I mentioned, this is a feeding support pillow. Formula feeding moms are welcomed too! This pillow is for meant for any caretaker.

Breastfeeding is just how I choose to fed my child and what works for me.

Tip: If you are planning to breastfeed, a nurse pillow is crucial in your journey!

Review

Initially when I got the pillow, I had in my head that I needed to adjust the pillow the same way as the models portrayed it on the box. I kept trying twisting, rotating, and sliding the pillow up and down my arm trying to figure out how the models did it.

GIRL, Liam was SO frustrated!

He gave me this look like, “ So are you going to feed me, or keep playing with this pillow”?!

Nevertheless, there is no set way to adjust the pillow! Do what works and is comfortable for you and baby. Remember that, what works for you isn’t going to work for someone else. That’s okay!

Pros:

Accessibility

One thing I love about the Milk Boss is its convince! It’s small, lightweight, and compact which makes bringing it on-the-go ideal.

A lot of nursing pillows tend to be crescent shaped. This design is to enable the pillow to go around mom’s waist to assist with feeding.

Let me just say this, my husband is not putting that thing around his waist to help feed our son! It’s just not happening.

The Milk Boss is designed for any caregiver! The unique egg- like shaped design lets you to have the maximum amount of support while feeding baby. This will help eliminate awkward feedings!

Functionality

Not only can you using the Milk Boss for feeding support, but you can also use it to lay your baby on to burp after a feeding!

Affordability

In comparison to other the feeding support pillows, the Milk Boss is on the less expensive side! You can get this pillow for 24.99! That’s the perfect price point for a feeding pillow.

Cons:

The only real “con” I have is: I wish there was a slip cover to put over the Milk Boss. You can wash the entire pillow, but as you know it might take awhile to dry. With a cover, you would have the flexibility to take it off and just wash it rather than the entire pillow.

No major complaints!

Final Thoughts

All in all, I’m really digging the Milk Boss! It makes feeding your baby less of a hassle. The Milk Boss is a convenient and affordable way to assist with feeding you little one! You can get your Milk Boss here.

Divatress Wigs

This is a sponsored post for Divatress Wigs! However all opinions expressed are my own!

In undergrad, I had all the time in the world ( of course after class) to do my hair! Sis, I would change up my hair every 1-2 weeks. My motto was: “ if you see me in public and my hair isn’t done, that wasn’t me”. Hair WAS life!

Now that I’m a mom, my priorities have shifted. Honestly, I don’t have time to do my hair.
Well, at least not as often as I would like.I miss the freedom of having the time to change up my hair!

BUT…

Being the innovative mama that I am, I always have a solution to everything 😉

*ques drumroll* ISSA WIG!

WIGS! WIGS! & More WIGS!

Wigs are a game changer for moms! You can slap it on your head before you drop the kids off… before you head to the grocery store…before a date night… Your possibilities are endless!

Not, only are wigs super convenient, but they are an awesome way to protect your natural hair.

Wearing wigs has given me the ability to be versatile with my hair again! #mamaagothergrooveback

Typically,I prefer to wear lace front wigs. They are the most natural and easiest to blend.

Looking to purchase a wig ?! Well I have the perfect one stop shop: Divatress

Divatress is one of the best leading websites to purchase hair and beauty products! Their site has a huge selection of hair and beauty products to choose from. They have sell both synthetic and human hair.

Cloth Diaper Review: CooperRose

This is my first ever cloth diaper review!! I’m so thrilled to introduce you all to this amazing company!

CooperRose is an eco friendly brand; whose mission is to advocate for natural parenting options (i.e cloth diapering, breastfeeding, use of natural products, and babywearing) for families in communities lacking support.

A lot of times people who live in these communities don’t realize they have options.

No one encourages you to breastfeed, because “ that’s not what we do‘round here”.

You aren’t told that toxins are in disposable diapers and are harmful to your baby.

And you’re damn sure not encouraged to babywear! You know, because holding your baby will “spoil “ them.

These misconceptions are holding communities and generations back! There needs to be an open dialogue about parenting options. People in these communities need the education and love passed to them, so healing can being in the community.

Sorry for the little rant! BUT, this is a conversation that needs to be addressed.

Discovering CooperRose was SO delightful. Not only are children of color being represented (as they should be),but they are being affirmed and uplifted by this brand!

On to the review:

I love this diaper y’all! It’s definitely my favorite diaper! For obvious reasons of course, ( come through young, brown, & gifted), but it’s a quality diaper #takeallofmymoney!

This is a pocket style diaper. CooperRose also sells a cover version of the pocket diapers.

The pocket style diapers come with two hemp & organic cotton  inserts.

When I say the inserts are the softest thing ever, y’all these are the SOFTEST ever! I absolutely adore them!

The inserts are super absorbent, which is a major plus.

You can lay the inserts directly in the inside of the diaper, or you can stuff them inside the pocket.

I prefer to stuff my inserts in the diapers. But, if I’m in a rush (or being lazy)  the inserts will stay on the outside!

The placement of your inserts doesn’t affect the absorbance.

This  diaper has been washed a handful of times and all of the letters are still intact!

I kept contemplating if I wanted to actually wash the diaper or just hold on to it as a keepsake.

Y’all deserve an honest review, so I washed it…

Each time, everything stayed perfectly intact. No color fading or warped lettering!

Everything about this diaper in BOMB!! I recommend this diaper.

You can get your very own Young, Brown & Gifted diaper here.

I must add, that this company is  ran by an amazing black business woman! You won’t be disappointed purchasing this diaper or any of her products.

Even if you aren’t a cloth diapering mama, please donate to CooperRose’s cause.

Thank you CooperRose for making a difference in our community and  most importantly representing people in underserved communities.

Peace,

Ashley

Momzelle Nursing Top Review

I dreaded buying maternity/ nursing clothing when I was pregnant with Luna. Everything I came across wasn’t appealing. So, I refused to buy anything! The few items I did buy for breastfeeding I hated them. The clothing either  fit awkwardly on my body or they weren’t actually breastfeeding friendly.

Then came Momzelle and completely changed the game!

Momzelle is a Montreal-based breastfeeding apparel shop, that’s run by a lovely husband and wife duo. They design stylish, yet practical nursing clothing. Not only does the company sell breastfeeding apparel, they also have transitional maternity wear. It’s a one-stop shop!

This review is for the nursing top Sophie!

Let me just start off by saying this is the most comfortable top I have period! Whether you’re breastfeeding or not this top would be a great addition to your wardrobe especially for fall/ winter!

On to the review:

The Sophie top is similar to a standard sweatshirt, except it has a double layer on the top that allows baby to have full access to nurse. I love that you’re able to nurse your baby, without being fully exposed. The dual layer is super convenient. Unlike other nursing apparel, you don’t need to unclip and then re-clip anything in order to feed baby. All you have to do is lift up the top layer and nurse!

One thing that has discourage me from purchasing nursing apparel is: often times it’s hard to find stylish nursing wear. I’ve noticed with a lot of maternity / nursing clothing, you’re forced to sacrifice style for practicality. Most breastfeeding apparel is pretty plain. Not to mention, having larger breasts makes it harder to find nursing clothes to accommodate them.

But,  *ques music* Momzelle to the rescue! Their clothing will get you right honey!

Momzelle has a great section of apparel to choose from. So, there is something to fit every style. No more plain jane clothing just because you’re breastfeeding!

The best part about Momzelle’s breastfeeding apparel is: their clothing is actually works for larger breast!  This was a pleasant surprise.

The openings in the Sophie top are pretty generous! I also have a dress from them, I’ll be doing a review on, and  the openings were also great for my breast as well.

Overall, I love my top. It’s quality, stylish and has an amazing fit!

Check out some of Momzelle’s clothing here.

HASK Hair : Coconut Milk & Organic Honey Collection Review

I received the Coconut Milk and Organic Honey Collection complimentary of HASK Beauty. All thoughts expressed are all my own.

Hey Beloved,

This post is a review of the HASK Beauty Coconut Milk & Organic Honey. This collection is specifically for curly girls, but HASK Hair does have a variety of lines that cater to different hair needs!

HASK Beauty recently launched three new Exotic Oil Collections – one for curls, one for all hair types, and one for blondes. I was sent the curl collection:  Coconut Milk & Organic Honey.  The collection consists of a shampoo, conditioner, and deep conditioner. All the products are free of artificial colors, alcohol, sulfates, and parabens!  Which is great for you natural and holistic product lovers!

To start the review off, I just want to let you all know that CHILD these products smell BOMB! I don’t know about you, but I’m always either in the beauty supply store or down the hair isle smelling ALL the products. For me, a good scent plays a part in whether or not I’m going to purchase the product.

I’m not here for saturating products in my hair that make me want to gag. At the end of a hectic work week, I like to unwind and with a wash day. How can I distress if I’m dealing with stinky products?!

Okay on to the real review: I used the products over the course of one month. So, that consisted of 3 wash days.

For clarification, a wash day is a specific day I set aside to wash, condition, and style my hair. In short, a day dedicated to hair maintenance. Yes, it takes the entire day. Especially, with a toddler who is constantly touching, moving, and tasting products!

I wanted to get a feel for the products before posting my thoughts about them. Below is a breakdown of my thoughts on each product.

Products:

Curl Care Shampoo:  The shampoo was hydrating! It didn’t strip my hair of its natural oils, which is important. Being natural, I’m very picky when it comes to shampoo. I don’t shampoo my hair often (co- wash type of gal), so when I do,  I expect optimal results. A shampoo that is drying (typically full of sulfates and parabens) don’t produce the results that I want.  However, the Curl Care Shampoo wasn’t drying at all. The shampoo eliminated my product build up with ease. It left my hair manageable, soft, and of course clean!

Curl Care Conditioner: Initially, I was skeptical about the conditioner. The consistency of the conditioner through me off. It isn’t as thick as the conditioners I normally purchase. So, I assumed that it wouldn’t do my tresses any justice. But, I was wrong! The Curl Care Conditioner left my hair super hydrated. It left my hair squeaky clean, yet nourished with no additional weight. With any conditioner I use, I always leave it in longer than the suggested time. This method allows the product time to really penetrate your strands.

Curl Care Deep Conditioner: HASK Beauty has a variety of deep conditioners aiming to cater to all hair types. Depending on my hair needs, I’ll either condition or deep condition. Typically, I won’t do both on the same wash day. The Coconut Milk &  Organic Honey deep conditioner was hydrating like the conditioner and shampoo. It has a thicker consistency, which I liked. Most deep conditioners have that thick consistency for a deep treatment and hair repair.

When it comes to hair care I do my own thing. The directions might say ” Leave product on for 10 minutes then, rinse”, well that 10 minutes could easily turn into 10 hours (exaggerating but you get it). I apply the conditioner, put on my conditioning cap, and start doing stuff around the house.  I like to let deep conditioners saturate in my scalp for a while so my hair can really absorb the product. If my time permits, I’ll even add heat for maximum .

The only negative thing I have to say about the deep conditioner is; I wish it was available in a jar or bottle. The packet wasn’t enough for me.

Pricing

Often, I get questions about the prices of my hair products. I wanted to make sure I addressed it in this post. The HASK brand is affordable! The shampoo and conditioner bottles retail for 5.99 each. However with the deep conditioner, you’re looking at spending 2.99 per packet.

Great thing about this line is that it can be found at your local drug stores and even at Ulta Beauty.

Final Thoughts

Each of these products served its purpose well for my hair. This is my first time ever using the HASK brand. Surprisingly, My hair needs were met! I’m impressed with the Coconut milk & Organic Honey collection. The products left my hair feeling hydrated, nourished, and CLEAN!  I would recommend this product to all my curl friends.

Thanks for reading!

SheaBassador Box #1

This post is going to be short & sweet. I’m not going to get into the details of each product. It’ll just be my favorite and least favorite item. Along with a final thought.

My first box as a SheaBassador, I received items from the Raw Shea Chamomile & Argan Oil Baby Skin Care Collection.

The items were:

     Baby Foaming Wash & Shampoo

     Baby Lotion

Baby Face, Hand & Bum wipes

I also received a SheaMoisture bib (these are not available for purchase)

Prior to this box, I’ve never tried any of the SheaMoisture baby items. So, it was fun to experiment with each product.

Okay let’s get to it:

The line is designed to calm & comfort baby, while moisturizing and soothing dry skin. It’s perfect for little ones who may suffer from eczema!

Favorite item: I loved the Raw Shea Chamomile & Argan Oil Lotion! This lotion is rich & creamy, THICK (how I like my men), and long lasting. Since Luna has eczema, I tend to use thick creams to keep it under control. Sometimes, thick lotions and creams tend leave a greasy residue, but this product gave us no problems with that! I even use it on myself (mama gets dry too)! I absolutely love it.

Least Favorite item: I wasn’t a fan of the Raw Shea Chamomile & Argan Oil Wipes. The smell is very strong and lingers. It through me off! I only use scent- free wipes on Luna, so I wasn’t too fond of dealing with scented wipes. I’m just weird like that! However, the smell doesn’t take away from the quality of the product.

Initially, I thought the wipes would cause irritation because they’re scented, but that wasn’t the case. I used them for Luna’s face and bum. She never experienced any breakouts. The wipes were hydrating and left her skin soft. I did like that the wipes were durable, so they didn’t tear after one wipe. Personally, I just can’t get with the smell. That was my first and last time using those wipes.

Luna’s favorite item: Luna enjoyed the Raw Shea Chamomile & Argan Oil Foaming Wash. She just likes to pump it out and blow the foam everywhere, but hey what more can you expect from a toddler! I have not used it as a shampoo yet. I decided to salvage what’s left of the bottle and wait until baby #2 arrives! I’ll post a mini review via Instagram.

Everything in the collection (all SheaMoisture products) is natural so it can be used for baby or adult. I recommend this collection, but I would just advise you to smell it before you buy it! The products are quality and you won’t be disappointed.

Can’t wait for my next box!

Toddler Wash Day Routine

Typically, I wash Luna’s hair once a week. Usually on Friday or Saturday nights depending on our schedule. I try to make sure our wash days don’t fall on the same day because that’s a lot to tackle in one day. Like we would need the entire day: naps, snacks, and breaks included. For this wash day, I decided to use the SoCozy products!

I received the Boing Curl collection from SoCozy. This set includes Boing Curl Shampoo, Conditioner, and Leave in Conditioning Spray.

SoCozy products are salon grade and designed specifically for kids. They are free from parabens, sulfate, phthalates, formaldehyde, synthetic color, gluten, wheat, and nuts. So, these products are extremely allergen friendly.

This is a sponsored post for Brand Backers &  SoCozy. All opinions expressed here are my own!

Step 1: Shampoo

I wash Luna’s hair in the tub. But, since she is getting bigger, I may start sitting her in a chair and washing her hair in the sink (salon style) for convenience.

To begin, I prep the tub and make sure that all of our supplies is within reach. I rinse her hair a little to help clarify it.

Next, I shampoo the hair, but only once. Simply because all she rocks is her fro and at this age she doesn’t have extreme product build up.

There isn’t anything on the bottle that states the product is tear- free. So, be mindful of that when you use it. I didn’t want to take any chances, so I took extra precautions.  Make sure that when you rinse the product out, the water falls away from your child face.  Try to keep their eyes dry. This prevents your child from rubbing their eyes, which can cause irritation…leading to fussiness and a shorten wash day.

Tip: Never detangle during this stage! Detangling wet or hair that’s only been shampooed can cause breakage!

Step 2: Condition

Before applying the conditioner to Luna’s hair, I dry her hair with a t-shirt then apply the conditioner. I detangle her hair some during this stage with a wide tooth comb. This detangle is super quick. I let the conditioner set for about ten minutes. During that time, Luna plays with her bath toys and we sing our bath song! Then we rinse.

The SoCozy conditioner isn’t as fruity as we’re used to, but it does have a faint flowery scent.  To be exact the scent is called “sweet-crème”. It still moisturized her just as well as the other products we use so no complaints.

Step 3: Detangle

Detangling your toddler’s tresses can be a little bit of a challenge. As you know, toddlers don’t like to sit for very long.  I like to offer Luna a snack before I begin.

To start, I spray her entire head with the leave-in conditioner. She likes when I massage it into her scalp. It makes her laugh! So, I massage it in, until her hair has soaked up the product some.

Then I section off the hair into three or four parts and clip the hair down to keep them separate (she always manages to take out some clips… all of them).

She took out the clips before I was able to snap the photo!

I use a detangling brush on Luna’s hair. I feel it works better than a regular wide tooth comb. Especially since the bristles are very flexible. The bristles are also different lengths so the tension is being evenly distributed when brushing your hair.

After brushing out each section, I give her a chance stretch and run around before we moisturize.

Tip: Make sure your child’s hair is well saturated with leave-in conditioner before detangling to prevent tears and once again breakage!

Step 4: Add Moisture

I use the LOC (liquid, oil, and cream) method on Luna’s hair. I won’t go into details in this post, but I love that method to seal in the moisture in her tresses.

I pop on her bonnet and we’re off to bed!

Tip: If you child fights the bonnet buy a few satin pillow cases! They serve the same purpose as a bonnet.

I was pleasantly surprised at the SoCozy products. This was my first time using them, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Even though the products are natural and free of harsh chemicals, I assumed that the products would be drying. I thought they weren’t going to nourish my daughter’s specific hair type. But, SoCozy definitely proved me wrong!

Overall, I really love the SoCozy Boing Curl line. The products served their purpose well!
